History

After graduating from high school, at the age of 19, he became an apprentice to the late Mr. Seiroku Nakamura, the holder of an "Important intangible cultural asset of Saga Prefecture", in the famous porcelain production area of Arita, Saga Prefecture. After four visits, his enthusiasm was recognized and he became an apprentice. While working as a cleaner and a driver for the kiln, he studied the technique of potter's wheel under Mr. Seiroku.

He pursued how to create sharp circular shapes by utilizing the centrifugal force of the potter's wheel. It was a series of failures. At the age of 35, he went independent in his hometown of Fukuoka Prefecture. After becoming independent, he won the Fukuoka Prefecture Governor's Prize at the West Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition in 2010. This was the moment when his skills, trained by Seiroku, were full display.

Currently, he is a popular artisan who is invited to hold nearly 10 solo exhibitions a year at department stores and galleries throughout Japan.
